Workshop: Creating Rubrics from Scratch to Assess Learning

Description: Members of the JMU Assessment Community will lead a workshop that will assist faculty and assessors in the creation of local rubrics.  Faculty will work in teams to develop a rubric and we encourage faculty to come to the workshop with the skill or competency they are most interested in such that they can create something useful for their work. This workshop will cover rubric design, trait analysis, proficiency rankings and other descriptors that allow faculty to review student work creatively.

Symposium: HBCU Institutional Effectiveness

Description: The Virginia Assessment Group is proud to sponsor the launch of a new professional learning community. This event will bring together colleagues to build and share expertise around culturally responsive assessment and learning environments.

Audience: The HBCU Institutional Effectiveness Symposium is open to institutional leaders, institutional effectiveness and assessment professionals, and faculty who serve Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Serving Institutions.

Post Conference

Networking Lunch with Virginia Regional Accreditation Symposium

Description: This year’s Virginia Regional Accreditation Symposium (VRAS) will be held immediately following the Virginia Assessment Group meeting, on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. VRAS invites Virginia Assessment group members for a networking lunch to kick off the meeting. This is a great opportunity to discuss the intersection of assessment and accreditation. 

Time: Tuesday, November 6th 12:30pm 

Register: Virginia Assessment Group members who do not plan to participate in the VRAS meeting may add the optional lunch to their Virginia Assessment Group conference registration.

Virginia Regional Accreditation Symposium

Description: The VRAS is an active, purposeful network of higher education colleagues in Virginia that advances open discussion and dissemination of knowledge to support institutions to achieve and sustain SACSCOC accreditation. The VRAS serves the higher education community in Virginia by facilitating inter-institutional relationships and providing accurate information and reliable interpretation of SACSCOC policy.

The 2018 VRAS Annual Symposium is scheduled for Tuesday, November 6 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Charlottesville. We are pleased to have SACSCOC Chief of Staff, Larry Earvin, joining us for this year’s symposium. The VRAS Symposium kicks off with a networking lunch and concludes at 6:30pm that evening.
